Mervyn served 30 years with the Thames Valley Police spending 15 years as Tactical Firearms Officer. He was involved with helicopters, drug search dogs, underwater search teams, armed protection for Royalty and V. I. P’s. This talk is amazing and gives insight into how the police operate.
Use and abuse of photography Professor Martin Parsons 20 April 2022
Martin was a Professor of Modern History at Reading University prior to founding a Research Centre for Evacuees and War Child Studies. He is considered by his peers as a world expert on the short and long term effects of war on children. His talk entitled The Use and Abuse of Photography in History is a light hearted look at the way in which photos have been used to distort history, but also how they can be used to enhance historical research.

Ian qualified with a degree from Oxford prior to becoming a Chartered Accountant. He then had a change of career and became a professional Magician. He now divides his time between giving talks, writing, accountancy and magic. He will talk to us today about Charles Dickens who practiced conjuring for 7 years of his life.

The talk will be Whitefriars Glass history from 1923 when they moved the glass works from the city of London to Wealdstone in Harrow. It continued at these works until 1980.
They are famous for “The Drunken Bricklayer” and other exciting models.
